Hi friends! It has been an interesting few days so let me catch you up!
Friday:
This was a terrifying day for me (if you follow me on Instagram you know why). I was in the kitchen doing dishes and had both babies in their high chairs, snacking, faced towards me. I looked at Ollie and Liv, turned to put a coffee mug away, look back at them and the sight I saw will scar me for awhile. Olivia’s lips were turning purple as well as under her eyes. They were puffy, purplish-pink and she was not making a sound. She was choking. I reacted really fast and managed to clear her airway, but it is something that really affected me. I never felt such sheer panic in my life. On a positive note, I am fortunate that I took infant cpr and refreshed my memory by watching YouTube videos demonstarting how to do this- if I had not, the outcome could have been very different. I’m currently working on a blog post regarding this day in more detail because it was a HUGE wakeup call to me and something I want to spread awareness on. I will be doing a blog on how I made sure I was prepared for a situation like this, safer snack ideas, how to avoid this situation (at all costs) and so on! Please stay tuned for that (: I’ll have it up later this week!
In another- more positive – breath, let’s chat about Saturday, shall we?
Saturday:
My alarm clock went off at 5:55 a.m. I hopped out of bed *half asleep, sipped on some coffee and threw on my running clothes that I had laid out the night before. My friend Shannon and I were planning on running around 6:30 a.m. The weather was gorgeous and it felt like the first day of summer where it did not feel extruciatingly humid! We ran a solid four miles and then hurried home to our families to get the day going! When I arrived back everyone was still asleep. There is something that feels really good about waking up before your babies to squeeze a workout in. It made me feel accomplished very early on and set a positive tone for the rest of Saturday!
As I have mentioned in my prior posts, weekends are utilized for getting work done on our house and we had a big project for this one! Once Ollie and Liv went down for their long nap, Matthew and I started to take the cabinets off in our kitchen to sand and prep before we paint them white! The goal for this day was to prime the whole kitchen and get all the cabinets completely sanded before Sunday rolled around.
Random side note: We had a package delivered today and it’s hilarious how this Moby bath sprout cover made me so excited! The babies have graduated from their baby bath and can comfortably sit in the bathtub! Woo! However, the nozzle was going to give me a heart attack so I ordered this protective cover pronto! Here’s the link in case anyone else is in the same situation I was in!
Once the babes were up from their nap it was almost impossible to continue to work on the cabinets! My mom and I had this plan that we would move their play gate right by the kitchen so they could watch us work. Hahaha thattt was interesting and let’s just say did not last more than ten minutes. My mom ended up sititng the in the living room with them and then took both babes on a short walk after so I could squeeze two hours of painting in (thanks mom!). Once Ollie and Liv went down for for the night (around 8:15 p.m.) We worked until 11:00 p.m. and then called it quits to start cleaning all our messes up!
Here are some before and after photos from last weekend when we tore the wall down and what it currently looks like now with NO cabinets since we are in the process of finishing up painting them white!
The inebetween stages of house projects are nevvver pretty! But it’s fun to share for my own personal memories. I can’t wait for the final result of the kitchen so I can look back on this post to see how far it has come! Once the cabinets are up, it will be time to focus on a new counter top, sink, lighting, and possibly the floor. The goal from the very beggining was to make this kitchen more open and honestly just prettier. Out of all the rooms in this house it is by far our least favorite so we are doing something about it!
Sunday:
I started off my morning with a four mile run with my dad. Anyone else seeing a pattern here? Runs with my dad hold a special place in my heart. My first vivid memory is when I was three and half running the one mile kiddie race. My dad was running along side of me, cheering and bribing me with a cookie and applejuice at the finish line- ha! A lot of my first memories have to do with either running along side one of my parents or being pushed in a stoller by them on their runs. It’s not just about exercising but about spending quality time with that person. We don’t look to run as fast as we can during the four miles. If anything, we run at a pace where can still manage to talk and catch up! Maybe this is why I love taking Oliver and Olivia on walks. I do wonder all the time what their first memories will be. There really is so much to look forward to with them! It makes my heart full and happy.
Later, it was time to finish sanding the cupboard doors and get them painted! While Matthew did that my mom and I worked on painting the first coat in the kitchen! The plan is to get the cupboards up and finished then get started on the walls. I like the idea of doing a light grey to contrast the white – stay tuned for our final decision on that!
Something that made my whole day was seeing my friend Jen, from college! What’s crazy is we have not seen one another since mine and Matthews wedding…almost three years ago! What I love about our friendship is we can always pick up where we left off depsite how long its been. It’s something I truly value about our friendship.
Not to mention Jen is a great sport! We went on a walk with the babies and ended up having to carry Olivia the last mile and a half…talk about a solid arm workout! What ended up happening is we would swap between carrying Olivia and pushing Oliver and Stella in the stroller…Yes you read that right! Stella took Olivia’s seat in the stroller. I swear she’s my furry triplet!
That was pretty much my weekend in a nutshell!
A few random goals I have for this week would be:
- Swim laps at least two days this week
- Run on the days I do not swim
- Organize my bathroom cupbaords (they are SCARY)
- Finish up kitchen projects before Thursday!
- Plan the babies 1st birthday! I can’t believe that is so close to being here…
Who else has big goals to accomplish this week? What do you do to make sure you follow through and get them done?
