Before I get started I would just like to say that, no! I am not following the keto diet…I’m just adding bulletproof coffee to my daily regimen!
Now lets dive in…what the heck even is bulletproof coffee?!
When you go to research this, every site is going to have a slightly different recipe but they all have one main ingredient…
- Grass-fed unsalted BUTTER. Like what? Past that the ingredients will vary. Some people will say they use coconut oil, others MCT oil or brain octane oil. When it comes to the coffee bulletproof coffee lifers swear by using actual bulletproof coffee beans. However, I read up that other people use their favorite preferred coffee and that works just fine…so that is what I have been doing!
Here is the exact recipe I am using (it’s very basic)
- 2 TBS grass-fed unsalted butter
- Dunkin’ Doughnuts K-cup
- 1 tsp MCT oil
- 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
Then basically you throw everything into the blender, blend, TA-DAAAAA! Bulletproof coffee! Looks like a latte and tastes delicious.
I have read up on other tasty additions that people use and those would be:
- Cocoa powder
- Stevia drops
- Sugar-free syrups
Then there are the functional additions:
- Brain Octane
- Collagen peptides
- Pink Salt
Let’s dig into bulletproof coffee on a deeper level because (not gonna lie) when I first heard about I thought it was downright silly.
No, actually, I thought it was pretty dumb to put it nicely. Then I heard the reasoning behind it and it made more sense to me. The science behind it is that this coffee drink should be replacing your breakfast. It triggers weight loss by the way of Ketosis. What is Ketosis? It is a metabolic state triggered by the lack of carbs that kicks fat burning into overdrive. Apparently, it kicks cravings to the curb and helps significantly with cognitive thinking & ENERGY. Pretty much, what I got out of researching this thoroughly, is that you are replacing your breakfast (that is typically a bunch of carbs such as bagels, toast, cereal) with healthy fats aka bulletproof coffee. Instead of burning off the carbs you ate that morning, throughout the day, you will burn off body fat.
What originally sold me on bulletproof coffee?
-
- I liked the idea of fasting until 11 or 12 every day because honestly (especially this past month) I have been waking up very early and not eating until almost noon anyways. I always make coffee in the morning…ALWAYS…and I knew I needed to intake more calories with my hectic schedule.
- I LOVE COFFEE….
- So many people have claimed that it has immensely improved their energy levels and that was very appealing to me. I will take any energy I can get!
- I was getting bored. I have talked a lot in my stories on Instagram that you do not need to follow a specific diet to lose weight and I 100% agree. However, I was hitting a plateau and when that happens I know its time to change it up…throw something new into the mix.
- I like to use myself as a guinea pig!
So far, I love it and I actually look forward to it every morning. I have felt an increase in energy but not going to lie…maybe it is the placebo effect? I’ll know more in a week so I will keep you all posted!
Rachel, I’ve been following your post partum journey and when you first mentioned billet coffee I figured it was a certain coffee just blended ( I haven’t looked it up because anytime I get my phone out my little babe steals it from me lol) but I’m in the same boat as you, don’t typically eat until about noon- I get about as much time to put on coffee and then get myself and the baby ready for the day. This was really helpful!
This looks so good!! Maybe I will have Zach try this!! Great idea Rachel! 🙂
I’m on the go with a hectic commute in the mornings. I normally don’t have time for anything more than a homemade granola bar in the car…I might have to try this! I can’t wait to hear more about your results. I am loving following your journey. I’m working on staying fit in preparation to start my own family in a year or two 🙂
Do you feel like it actually curbs your hunger? I am the type of person that has to have breakfast almost immediately or I feel sick. I’m also a HUGE coffee lover, so I want to try it, but not feel starved all morning long!
Are you still loving the bulletproof coffee?? 🙂
YESSSS!!
